About this deal

Xmech (tech shorthand for “maximum mechanical before damage”) excursion and 65mm peak-to-peak Xmax (shorthand for “maximum linear”) excursion. The PB16, meanwhile, has a 95mm peak-to-peak Xmech excursion and an 82mm peak-to-peak Xmax. Put another way, the SB16 and PB16 cones have a linear range of motion of 2.56 inches and 3.23 inches, respectively. While the woofers are the same size and use similar components, the PB16-Ultra uses an underhung motor (with voice coil windings shorter than the height of the magnetic gap), while the SB16-Ultra uses an overhung motor (voice coil windings longer than the height of the magnetic gap), which is why their excursion specs are slightly different. Compatible with Apple® and Android® platforms, the innovative PB16-Ultra smartphone app unleashes the full depth, force and nuance of the world’s finest subwoofer. The groundbreaking SVS subwoofer app controls all DSP functions and conveniently stores custom presets. It’s the easiest way ever to fine tune bass surpassing 16Hz at reference volumes from the comfort of your favorite seat.

The same holds true for video games; the power and depth of the bass this sub produces makes AV experiences more visceral and therefore more believable. Given the choice between having a PB16-Ultra in a system and not having one in a system, I would always choose the former. It goes extremely low, but somehow the midbass is really underwhelming. Can anybody explain this? I still own the PB-2000 and tried switching between the two. The 2000 clearly gives a better punch/slam in the chest. I tested them in the same placement. The 2000 shakes the room a lot more while the ultra is better at filling the room with ultra low frequency sound - if that makes any sense? Effortless power must be harnessed to ensure refined behavior and pristine output at the most demanding drive levels. To achieve this, the PB16-Ultra subwoofer uses the audio industry’s most advanced 50 MHz Analog Devices Audio DSP with 56bit filtering to handle the nearly limitless power, only unleashing the perfect amount of low frequency energy at just the right time. Innovative New Smartphone App for Subwoofer DSP and Control. Conservatively rated at 1,500 watts continuous, 5,000+ watts peak power, the PB16-Ultra Sledge STA-1500D amplifier’s 64 Amp 200-Volt MOSFETs are the sonic muscle behind arguably the most powerful and highest fidelity subwoofer amplifier ever developed. Discrete MOSFET output unbridles the nearly limitless power in the Sledge amplifier and pushes the 16-inch driver to extreme levels of performance. They also represent an upgrade over the less robust integrated circuit output stages found in nearly all other Class D subwoofer amplifiers. In terms of features the SB16-Ultra boasts three key innovations that SVS believe will set this subwoofer apart from the competition. The SB16 uses a 16-inch driver, which is the biggest ever used by SVS, but to ensure the correct amount of control and accuracy, as well as handle the sheer force, there is an 8-inch edge wound voice coil – the largest ever deployed in a consumer subwoofer. It's the force from this voice coil that actually pushes and pulls the cone to produce all the bass energy. In the SB16 this voice coil is attached to the midpoint of the cone, making it stiffer and less prone to distortion. When designing the biggest and most formidable driver ever used in an SVS subwoofer, it was of utmost importance to meet or exceed the same supreme standards of control and accuracy as every other subwoofer SVS manufactures. One huge advancement that allows the PB16-Ultra to handle the crushing force of a 16-inch driver is the 8-inch edge wound voice coil, the largest ever deployed in a consumer subwoofer. This innovation ensures ultra-low distortion and pinpoint control at the highest drive levels resulting in incredible output and low frequency extension. By nature, larger drivers are more difficult to control, but the unprecedented voice coil design ensures accuracy in frequency response and speed in transients without ever sounding boomy. Continuously variable (30-200 Hz) 6, 12, 18, or 24 dB/octave low pass filter frequency with disable/LFE setting The power and depth of the bass this sub produces makes AV experiences more visceral. There was never an instance where the demands of what I listened to exceeded what the PB16-Utra could deliver. The best-performing, highest-impact sub I’ve heard." We say: A genuine bass behemoth that will suit owners of large theatres and those that like a bit of terror with their Blu-rays. Simply too big to smuggle into a living room setup...

Stunningly Powerful 1,500 Watts Continuous, 5,000+ Watts Peak Power Sledge Amplifier with Fully Discrete MOSFET Output. Fully Discrete MOSFET Output from Highly Efficient Class D Sledge Amplifier In that regard, the latest bass boxes from US speaker/sub brand SVS are a hoot to play with. But like all good toys they have a serious side. And they're somewhat expensive. Stunningly Powerful, New Sledge Amplifier with Fully Discrete MOSFET Output and 1,500 Watts Continuous, 5,000+ Watts Peak Power.Given everything you said though, I'm not sure that a single PB16 was ever really the best choice for you. Your room is only about 2,400 This graph shows the quasi-anechoic (employing close-miking of the woofer) frequency response of the PB16-Ultra subwoofer (blue trace). SVS has taken clean, deep bass to another level. The 16-Ultras push the envelope in every respect.” We say: Smaller in stature and output than the PB16, but still a stonking performer that's speedier and sounds more controlled. And it's more affordable, too. This sub is also perfect for movies. It can move lots of air, so you feel the impact of explosions. I was blown away by how 13 Hours sounded through the PB16-Ultra. That movie features a lot of shooting and explosions, and the sub's contributions made it all the more harrowing to watch.
