About this deal

It's taken me a long time to come to grips with how I feel about this book. I liked a couple things and I really disliked some things. Unfortunately, the bad override the good. i was actually busy with another book, but we went on a motorbike weekend and the other book was too heavy to carry, so i grabbed this one. :) Very highly recommended to anyone who loves thrillers and who has or hasn't read Andrea's previous books.

Will tries to put all that aside when he and Maggie start to see each other. She has recovered from the loss of her lover, and has used her personal history to write a number of wonderful songs that, along with her voice, catapult her into superstardom. In some ways, they are made for each other, and the tabloids just eat the world's newest glam couple right up. Maggie Bradford is a famous singer and songwriter. Many of her songs are based on the pain and heartbreak she feels because she killed her abusive husband before he killed her and their daughter Jennie. Years later, Maggie falls for famous soccer player Will Fletcher. As readers, we know Will is a psychopath who has killed before. Maggie shoots him outside her home after finding him with Jennie.

This was a wild little book that's being compared to Fantasticland and Hunger Games. I've not read Hunger Games but, for me, this is no Fantasticland. It just can't compare with Fantasticland's brutality. If I had to compare this to another book I would say it reminded me a bit of Reprieve by James Han Mattson due to the social commentary and the fact that while both are marketed as horror novels they aren't actually overtly frightening. They seem to be making you think more about the characters than the actual jump scares. Personally, I don't mind it. I don't need to be splashed with guts and gore to gain enjoyment from a horror novel. I'm not so much into creature features anymore but this was exceptionally well written and I cared enough about some of the characters that I enjoyed the ride from beginning to end. If this sounds appealing then I strongly suggest giving it a try because you could do a whole lot worse in this genre. 4 stars! This book I can see being good for some people, however this is one book that I can actually say I feel as though I wasted my time reading it. In this fun, interactive game of hide-and-seek, young children learn all about positional prepositions. Joanna becomes all-consumed by finding out what happened to the little girl because of a secret she is hiding. The story progresses seamlessly between her narrative in 2018 and an omnipresent narrator in 1985.

Without giving much away: I can absolutely say this was wild, jaw dropping, intense ride! My only concern is there are too many characters and some of them are truly annoying and easy to forget. I wish there were less competitors.

Also, in the author's note she mentions something about this being a treatise about race/class/whatever. Nah, it doesn't even come close to going there. Thanks to Kids Can Press and NetGalley for the provided e-ARC and the opportunity to read this book. My review is honest, unbiased, and voluntary. #NetGalley #HideAndSeek The hilarious illustrator of I Don't Want to Be a Frog brings picture book fans a super-silly, interactive story that will have children giggling from start to finish. Follow huge, loveable Fergus and see all the many ways in which he is TERRIBLE at playing hide-and-seek, such as standing behind a VERY tiny tree ("Found you, Fergus! That was too easy!") or trying to camouflage in a giant crowd of bunnies and squirrels ("Try bears, Fergus. Bears!").

I don’t want to say too much; it’s killing me not to comment on some of my favourite parts of the story but it would give it away.I enjoyed this twisty tale so much! The huge assemblage of characters didn't put me off as it sometimes can. Joanna Stedman, her husband Mark and their three children, Emily, Ben and Sophie move into what they hope is their forever home in the suburbs of Dublin. But alas, it is also from where three-year-old Lily Murphy went missing after playing hide-and-seek thirty years ago as Joanna later learns from her neighbour, Frances Burke next door.
