About this deal

Clarice’s way of speaking reminds me of Junior B Jones, which I loved as a kid. Clarice loves Ruby Redford mystery novels and dislikes her teacher. However, she gets to do a presentation on what she learned by reading Ruby Redford books, in spite of what her teacher thinks about the series. I do think we undervalue childhood – not just children but our childhood and how it shapes us,” she says. In Child’s series, the focus is completely on the endearing sibling relationship between seven-year-old Charlie and his sister Lola, who is nearly five. As Charlie tells us: Legendary poets John Agard and Grace Nichols, both originally from the Caribbean, have compiled a lovely book of poems featuring their own work alongside eleven others, forming a generous ‘Caribbean Dozen’ of wordsmiths.

The popular retailer teamed up with award-winning children’s author and illustrator Lauren Child CBE to bring a beloved children's book character to life. The magical scenes follow Clarice Bean as she desperately tries to save her family's Christmas and stop the festive spirit from completely floating away. There are many funny scenes where things go terribly wrong and it is hilarious! They get a huge tree that is way too big for their house. The turkey is accidentally dropped on the floor and then eaten by a mysterious dog or fox. Clarice Bean tries to make fudge, but it is a hazardous undertaking. This whole book is so funny! This is such a cute book! Clarice Bean is such a funny little kid. She has her own perspective on things and I love all her little quirks. The story is full of holiday cheer, and I loved hearing about all the family traditions that Clarice Bean celebrated with her family. It got me into the holiday spirit!

During the time when Clarices wonders why her grandfather is not home every night. She has an older brother named Kurt and an older sister named Marcie. Kurt is always untidy especially his room and appearance , but one day Clarice discovers that he takes more time in the bathroom and discovers her hair brush was missing. It turns out her brother is going out with Marcies best friend Chloe, and wanted to look his best. She and Karl fall out as she didn't come to Clem's party. She learns Clem is being bullied by Justin Broach. She says sorry to Clem and becomes friends with her. She also learns Clem is a ruby redfort fan like her. She invites her to the film premier and becomes friends with her. She and Karl make up and become friends again. My Uncle is a Hunkle, Says Clarice Bean - picture book - Clarice's parents have gone away and she is looked after by her Uncle.Even if you’ve never read a Clarice Bean book before, you will fall in love with this brilliantly narrated story of thinking about others, doing kind things and believing that your biggest Christmas wishes can come true. Clarice is a quirky and often hilarious narrator, but the loveliest thing about this book (as well as Lauren Child’s superlative collaged and sketched illustrations) is its warm-hearted celebration of sharing and families. The fictional author is Patricia F Maplin Stacey, whom Betty actually meets in Russia, where she gets a Ruby Redfort book signed. In another book, Clarice gets to be in a movie starring "Skyler Summer" as Ruby Redfort. I have to say though, I can see why the girls love this series. It's well written, funny and full of clever little asides about family and school and relationships. Personally, I found the Ruby Redfort interludes like a less realistic Alex Rider, but I'm not nine years old. The writing made me smile several times and actively giggle once so I would imagine the girls would be in fits of giggles.

Child was born in a small village in Wiltshire in 1965, the second of three sisters. Her father was head of art at Marlborough College and she studied there at sixth form, then went to Manchester Polytechnic and London Art School. And I said, “Oh you think these are carrots. These are not carrots. They are orange twiglets from Jupiter.” The Clarice Bean series is a series of children's books written and illustrated by English author Lauren Child from 1999. The stories follow middle schooler Clarice Bean and her challenges navigating the complex ethical, social and philosophical questions children deal with at school and at home. But you have to keep going, until you get to this point where you start to see all these threads and they all work together. It’s like doing one of those incredible puzzles where you begin to see all the bits. And then you just have to find a way of linking them. That’s why I write. It’s for that moment.” In utterly me, she is shown to daydream in class and annoy her mean teacher, Mrs. Wilberton. She loves Ruby Redfort, and has read all the books a least once. She gets annoyed by her family quite a lot, mainly by her younger brother. She has to partner up with Karl to do a project about educational books because Betty is away. She doesn't know where though. At first she finds him annoying but then warms to him. She has a row with Betty because of this and tries to say sorry to her, Betty at first refuses and reveals she went to Russia for a few days. She then accepts and asks if she can come round to tea on Friday. Clarice says yes, but then realised that she invited Karl on the same day. Betty came round and so did Karl a few minutes later. Betty loves Karl's dogs and warms to him too. Clarice and Betty then make up properly. There’s not enough understanding of how sophisticated picture books can be,” she said in her manifesto. Christmas is approaching, and Clarice Bean is very excited. However, this year, Mum and Dad have decided that it’s just going to be the seven of them and not a huge family gathering, which Clarice feels is a little disappointing.Nineteen people is her number for a perfect Christmas – even if that means peeling over 100 potatoes. My Uncle is a Hunkle by Lauren Child (Please note this book is sadly out of print. Second hand copies are available online or try your local library).
