About this deal

His 1992 novel Prophecy was adapted into the first episode of the 1995 Chiller TV series. Since 2021, his Roy Grace series has been adapted into the ITV series Grace, starring John Simm. Within one week of each other, two brutal rapes happen in Brighton, with a very similar MO to one of Roy Grace's cold case-criminals, The Shoe Man. Dedicated, and hopeful, to put this criminal behind bars after twelve years of searching, Roy Grace and his team find themselves knee-deep in a vicious case with some truly horrific details... Some loose ends which lure us into the next in the series. This one was not so good as the previous entries. Not: "Yarın Biri Ölecek" Roy Grace serisinin 5. kitabı, "Senin Gibi Ölü" de 6. kitabı. Çakal yayıncılar büyük ihtimal insanlar "ben ilk 5 kitabı okumadım o yüzden bundan başlamayayım" demesin diye kaçıncı kitap olduğunu yazmıyor o yüzden bu tarz 2. sınıf polisiye romanları okumadan önce Goodreads'e bir bakmak faydalı. Özetle hayatımdan giden bir 660 sayfa daha...

When unsolved crimes resurface, Detective Superintendent Roy Grace faces a possible copycat killing in Dead Like You , by award winning crime author Peter James. This is the first Peter James book I’ve read, and it lands, I think, five books into a series following detective Roy Grace. In Dead Like You, Grace is after a brutal rapist whose M.O. begins to look very much like that of an number of unresolved cold cases that are sitting on his desk for review; those of the ‘Shoe Man’. This is the first book I've read by Peter James, and there's just something about the way he writes women that makes me deeply uncomfortable. The violence against women in this book is extreme, which I understand comes with the territory in crime fiction, but it's presented in such a way that the women become nothing more than objects of lust and violence. A woman is not just found naked after she is assaulted, no - she is spread eagle, with her genitals and breasts described in detail. In 2005 The Merchant of Venice, directed by Michael Radford and for which James was executive producer, had a royal premiere in the presence of Prince Charles and received a BAFTA Award nomination. In 2006 the film also won the Silver Ribbon for Best Production Design ( Migliore Scenografia) from the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists. The sixth in the DS Roy Grace series follows the themes established in previous novels, but is written to enable new readers to start the series here without needing to read the previous titles. Grace is a senior officer in the Brighton and Hove CID, with special responsibility for cold cases. In the past five books (summed up briefly for new readers) he has not had much opportunity to fulfil this role given the numerous contemporary cases he's solved over the past year (an amazingly varied year!). Now, Grace looks through some of these neglected old cases as the year approaches its end, determined to make inroads.

There's also a lot of the main detective getting to virtue-signal just how much he hates rapists, to the extent that something about it just felt off to me. Like yeah, of course he does. I would have assumed so, so why does the author feel like he has to keep telling me? Hook/Tension: The book starts off very well. One skill Mr. James has not lost is the ability to create tension and suspense and convey fear. That did hold true throughout the book. None of the victims, bar the last one, have any particular personality traits beyond liking shoes. Of all the women in the book, only Cleo is not terrible, complaining bitch. And even her personality seems to primarily be "not the ex." What an episode this is! From the very opening scenes you get that ominous sense that something dark is about to happen. With two separate events happening at the hotel on the same night, we are swiftly introduced to a number of key suspects in what turns out to be a serious sexual assault. Amongst them are a number of serving police officers, the key one of which is Grace’s new boss, ACC Cassian Pewe, portrayed in excellently smug and affected style by Sam Hoare. He and Grace have history and this new investigation in which Pewe becomes one of the prime suspects will not help calm the waters.

After reading a substantial number of fantasy and Sci-Fi novels this year, I thought it was about time for a thriller, so I decided to turn Peter James for some entertainment. Whilst I enjoyed Dead Like You, I found it to be one of the darkest of James’ novels yet, with some incredibly creepy antagonists. Richard & Judy Galaxy British Book Awards – Crime Thriller of the Year, shortlisted, Looking Good Dead When it comes to thriller series', it can sometimes seem like once you've read three - you've read them all. You start to question how different they can get, how much more can an author concoct into their characters lives, with a faint worry of becoming bored. On my sixth instalment in the Roy Grace series, and it's safe to say - I am far from bored!

Originality: This is a story which has been told before. There was no real originality to the plot, but there were some interesting bits. I did appreciate the good detail of procedural investigation and the handling of rape victims and appreciated Grace’s awareness of the impact of rape on its victims. (Περίληψη οπισθοφύλλου) I do love John Simm’s portrayal of Roy Grace as he turns in yet another calm and measured performance. In Dead Like You, Grace appears to be making great strides in his relationship with Dr Cleo Morey, although the path of true love never runs smoothly, and if there is any doubt about that then Grace only needs to look to DS Glenn Branson for evidence. Characters/Character Development: There were a lot of characters. This would be natural for a major police investigation. We are told who they are and, perhaps, their attribute or failing, but we never get to know most of them. The majority of characters are one-dimensional. Even Grace; aside from repeated reminders of how much in love he is with his new wife, we see very little depth to his character. For all of Grace’s declarations of love for Cleo, women are not well treated by the author. None of them, including Cleo, are very interesting or intellectually appealing as characters although one of the victims was wonderfully gutsy. For the suspects, however, we are shown what has caused them to be as they are; I did find that a strong point of the book. It is not an easy thing for an author to turn a suspect of a vile and violent crime into a somewhat sympathetic character. Detective Superintendent Roy Grace is forever haunted by the unexplained disappearance of his wife, Sandy, nearly ten years ago. Ever since she went missing, he's been consumed with finding out what happened to her. Finally, he may be moving on. He has fallen in love and is going to marry his girlfriend, Cleo, who is pregnant with their child.Le Grand Prix de littérature policère, shortlisted, La Mort Leur Va Si Bien (French translation of Looking Good Dead) He is married to Lara James (m. 2015). All Eight Roy Grace Novels by Peter James Now Available in e-Book Format in the United States". Prweb.com. 31 January 2013 . Retrieved 1 August 2013. In 1997, Brighton was on the hunt for a serial, stranger rapist. The perpetrator was never caught but the rapes suddenly stopped. Twelve years later, stranger rapes are happening again. The common thread is shoes; the victims all share a love for expensive, designer shoes which are used in their rape and taken from them. DS Roy Grace leads the team hunting down “The Shoe Man,” while awaiting the birth of his first child and still trying to solve the disappearance ten years ago of his first wife, Sandy. Yes there is some forward development of the character, but compared to the other books in the series it seems that DS Grace and the rest of his team are secondary characters this time around with what felt like much less than a quarter of the story given over to them and their detection of the case. Maybe Peter James was struggling this time with where to take Grace etc. Maybe his publisher edited it down to a more manageable length. Who knows. Either way it didn't feel like a DS Grace novel, more like a spin off in which he and his team had a cameo role. Think CSI: Miami with a character from one of the other franchises popping up. For a brief period of time whilst at film school, James worked as Orson Welles's house cleaner. Subsequently, he spent several years in North America, working as a screenwriter and film producer, beginning in Canada in 1970 working first as a gofer, then writer, on the children's television series Polka Dot Door. [1] Personal life [ edit ] Plot/Flow/Quality of Writing/Originality: Considering stranger rape is very rare in itself, the odds of more than one man with the same fetish operating at the same time are incredibly low. While it did add to the suspense and made for an interesting ending, it also raised the implausibility level to a point which diminished the plot. A device I’m seeing more frequently is that of dual time periods. There is a time when that works. In this case, I felt it more bloated the story to the point where I nearly stopped reading. It’s enough to read about numerous rapes during one time period; doubling that number became repetitive rather than suspenseful. The same is true of the secondary story line regarding the disappeared first wife. It doesn’t go anywhere or enhance the story in any way. Rather, it’s the massive imperfection on someone’s face at which you can’t help but look but it serves no purpose. The chapters are short, the time changes frequently as does the point of view, all of which leads to a choppy, fragmented read with no flow. kitapta tüm yanlış kullanılan noktalama işaretleri ve yazım hataları için Artemis Yayınları'na yazıklar olsun.
